About messaging providers and templates
Messaging is a critical part of building out SessionM campaigns. In short, a message is content that you want to communicate to the customer. Messages build awareness about products and promotions. They facilitate your ability to reach customers with personalized communications in their preferred channel. The SessionM Platform allows you to build and maintain a variety of messaging providers, along with templates that shape the form and content of the messages themselves. Message types vary, but most implementation use some combination of emails, push notifications, and SMS messages.
Providers
Messaging providers are communication platforms that manage transactional and marketing content delivered through email, push, and SMS messages. The Message Provider Module organizes message providers in a few broad categories:
- Standard, which include popular Email providers like SendGrid and SMS providers like OpenMarket.
- General Integrations, which include a few different kinds of providers such as SMS providers like Twilio and Sailthru, email providers like Cheetah Digital, push message providers like Urban Airship, and multi-purpose providers like Bronto.
- Ad-Hoc Webhooks for custom integrations.
On the Admin & Rights 2.0 dashboard, under Platform Configurations, you can click the Messaging Providers tile to open the Messaging Providers page:

Templates
Messaging templates determine how message content is displayed in the messages sent to customers in support of marketing campaigns and general communication. Each template can be named and defined with attributes pulled from the SessionM Platform. Once they've been added to the payload, they can be formatted and nested to achieve the desired message layout.
From the Messaging Providers table, you can open the Messaging Templates table for a specific provider by locating the provider and clicking its corresponding hyperlink in the Templates column. The SessionM Platform offers several types of providers, each with its own templates; the image below is showing the templates configured for a Twilio message provider:
