Set up "buy x get y" offer

Set up a "Buy X, Get Y" offer, which includes the following types:

  • Buy X Get Y Fixed – Buy X number of items and get a fixed amount off of the Y item.
  • Buy X Get Y Percent – Buy X number of items and get a percentage off of the Y item.
  • Buy X Get Y Set Price – Buy X number of items and get the Y item for a set price.

This task describes step 2 in creating a "Buy X Get Y" offer. Complete Step 1. Select Offer Type before completing this task. Continue with Step 3. Define Creative Content.

Step 2.1. Configure offer

Configure multiple attributes for the offer configuration, detailed below.

  1. Set the discount amount.
    FieldDescription
    Discount Amount ($) Numeric value specifying the dollar amount off selected items. Only applies to Buy X Get Y Fixed offers.
    Discount Percent %Numeric value specifying a percent off selected items. Only applies to Buy X Get Y Percent offers.
    Set Price ($)Numeric value specifying the fixed price of offer items. Only applies to Buy X Get Y Set Price offers.
    Required “Buy” Purchase QuantityNumber of “buys” to achieve discount eligibility (for example, “Buy 3 cheeseburgers, get 3 small fries” – transaction must have 3 cheeseburgers).
    Required “Get” Purchase QuantityNumber of “gets” to achieve discount eligibility (for example., “Buy 3 cheeseburgers, get 3 small fries” – transaction must have 3 fries).
    Item(s) to be Discounted “Lower” or “Higher” – If multiple eligible “Get” items are in the transaction, indicate whether the lowest or highest priced item is discounted).
    Applications Per CheckDefaults to “Unlimited”. Unchecking the box provides a field to define a specific amount when issued to the customer.
  2. Name the offer, which is for internal use only.

    Field Description

    Title

    Initially set with the value entered in the Add Offer modal. Displayed in the Offers dashboard.
    POS Discount ID Corresponding offer ID for the client point-of-sale or ecom system. Value is returned in the Lock API. Useful in implementations where the point-of-sale or ecom system is the system-of-record for the offer or responsible for repricing.
  3. Set the issuance period, which is the time period when the customer can receive the offer.

    Field Description

    Offer Start Date

    Date when the offer becomes valid and can be acquired by the customer.

    Offer End Date Defaults to “No End Date”, where the offer is valid until you deactivate it. When unchecked, a date field is present where you define when the offer is no longer valid.
  4. Set the redemption period, which designates the time when the customer can begin using the offer.

    Field Description

    Can Be Used

    Determines the time range of the redemption period. Options are:

    • Same as issuance period
    • Fixed date range
    • Duration after issuance
    • Never expires

    "Same as issuance period" and "Never expires" do not require any additional settings.

    “Fixed date range" requires you to enter the start and end dates. If the Issuance Period is set to "No End Date", you cannot set a Redemption Period end date.

    “Duration after issuance” requires you set a fixed period that the offers remains valid.

  5. Optional. Set the offer weight & value, which sets the priority and monetary value of the offer.

    Field Description

    Weight

    Drives offer display priority and default sorting (for example, in a reward store). Arranged in ascending order.

    Monetary Value Estimated dollar value of the offer given to the customer.
    Value After End Date If an offer expires, it retains the value set here. For example, if you enter “2,” the offer turns into a $2 Fixed Amount discount at the end of the validity period, regardless of its initial value.
  6. Specify if the reward is available in a reward store.

    Reward Store Toggle

    “Yes” or “No” toggle. Selection designates if the offer should be available in a reward store (for brands with a reward store).

    PointsIf offer is available in a reward store, the cost (in points) to purchase the offer.
  7. Optional. Configure the optional key value data you can input for any miscellaneous data that should be kept with the offer.
  8. Field Description

    “Yes” or “No” toggle for designating if the offer requires capability to store extension data to make this offer compatible with other data sets.

  9. Click Save and Continue.

Step 2.2. Set issuance restrictions

Set the frequency, inventory and quantity restrictions for the offer.

  1. Select Issuance Restrictions.

  3. Restriction Description
    Frequency Restriction Indicates how often a customer can acquire the offer from the reward store (or by other means like campaigns, loyalty rules, and so on). Amounts can be defined at a per-customer level or as a global acquisition cap for the selected time period.
    Inventory Restriction Defines the total quantity of offers that can be issued at a customer or global level.
    Quantity Restriction Limits the number of offers that can be selected by Selection Offer each time. By default, stand alone offers that are non-selection offers are incremented one at a time.
  4. Click Save and Continue.

Step 2.3. Set redemption restrictions

Set the store and use redemption restrictions for the offer.

  1. Enter values for the following:

    Store RestrictionIndicates locations included in or excluded from the offer.
    Use RestrictionIndicates how many times an offer can be used in a given time period by a customer.
  2. Click Save and Continue.

Step 2.4. Select buy menu items

In the Select Eligible Buy Menu Items section, choose the products that the customer needs to buy to receive the discount associated with the offer. Items not selected are not eligible for the promotion.

Tip: Select a top-level category to include all sub-items, and then select individual items within that category to exclude just those items.

Step 2.5. Select get menu items

In the Select Eligible Get Menu Items section, choose the products that the customer is eligible to receive at a discount as part of this promotion. Any item not selected is not eligible for the promotion.
